Marketing, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service”. To be in a digital field is to be in a field where the primary mode of action involves the use of electronic or computerized technology. So, when we put that together it means that Digital Marketing is the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing products or services via the use of electronic or computerized technology.
Let’s restate that in more specific terms. Digital Marketing is the use of technological means (i.e. email, website, downloadable media, etc.) to build a brand, sell a product, or otherwise bring awareness or increased profit to a business or web property.
